There are absolutely circumstances when this should happen. Today, many 14-17 year olds are nothing like they were 40 years ago.
I will be the first to admit that I am not the one to set these standards. I am so disgusted with our "slap on the wrist - the rights of the criminals are more important than the rights of the victim" justice system, I would probably be too tough.

I agree with "first lady". Why should a juvenile be charged as an adult? A juvenile cannot purchase cigarettes, or go to war, or vote. Or, should that too be "case by case"? The system is really screwed up. However, if I juvenile commits a terrible crime, they absolutely NEED to suffer the consequences and they need to be imprisoned, but NOT as an adult. Hopefully, they can be helped /rehabilitated, so they can re-enter society without being a serial rapist or killer.

If the law says that if you're 17 and under you're a juvenile, they should not straddle the fence. It should not be on a case by case basis. It is so much prejudice in the world where children are being tried as adulllt's just because of race and prior histroy. When you committ an adult crime as an adult you should be tried as an adult. The justice system is messed up and unfair.

I am against it. They are kids. If the prison rehabilitated people I would say yes. However, those kids go out worse than when they came in. At which time they end up usually in a life of crime that tax payers pay for. Did you know that it costs that same amount to send a kid to Harvard for a year as to keep some adults incarcerated for a year? Did you know the U.S. has the most ppl in prison on earth? Something is wrong here and throwing more ppl in prision is not the answer. Sometimes I want to move to Canada.

I have a problem with this. Even for those committing what is deemed "adult crimes". As adults it is our collective responsibility to care for all youth. When we fail by inaction or mishandling the guidance and inspiration of young people then the consequences are our responsibility. We insist that young people not have the right or access to what we in our society deem as "adult"- and this holds true for all youth- not on a case by case basis ---( although the right to serve in combat and get your head blown off is strangely exempt from that) -- and then we turn around and say - oh yeah, but we want to determine on a case by case basis whether you were adult enough to determine the consequences of your crime.

Teens are not exempt from punishment for their crimes. Society (Liberals) have said it is unjust to put teens and younger children on trial for their crimes, but that's a pile of crap. If they break the law and are found guilty they should be punished alike. Children and teens know that they can get away with almost anything and they abuse the system and laugh at us all. But whats most disturbing is some of the parents will do nothing to stop them but claim racist, unfair treatment because of their social status.
Lets start holding parents as accessories to these crimes and see what happens.

I have no problem with it, teens are conscious of what they are doing. however I also believe that if you get the bad , you should get the good. If you take the responsibilities and repercussions of an adult, you should also get the benefits.

Depends on HOW MANY times they have been in custody.
Juvenile delinquents should get a harsher punishment.
One day they will be glad for it.
