"I am Legend" by Richard Matheson... I liked this story. A novella really. In my copy it's also followed by some good short stories. Most are written years ago, but age very well-- this is a man who strongly influenced Stephen King (at least him) and also wrote for the Twilight Series and oh, etc. It's just good stuff.
"The Pelican Brief" and "The Client" are the two best books John Grisham wrote, in my opinion... for crime with suspense.
"The Bourne Identity" by Robert Ludlum is the best of that spy/suspenseful series. You may want to read all that Ludlum wrote about Bourne...
"The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux is really good, and creepy too. It's a classic for good reason.
"Velocity" by Dean Koontz surprises. For me it seemed to lag a bit in the middle, but the end was certainly worth it. A good horror/crime book.
I'm sure you'll get quite a list here from everyone, and I hope you find something that suits you--

Anything that strikes your fancy. Myself, I like mysteries and thrillers. So, I mainly read good authors' in each genre. I particularly like Matthew Reilly for thrillers and along with the actor George Clooney, think of Mr. Reilly as the best in the business when it comes to writing and reading thrillers.

This is something you'll like to read regardless of the movie adaptation.
