I have never heard it used. Could it be slang for "may as well?" Or even just "may?" You may do this. You may go downstairs. You may do my work, and I will do yours.

It is just a shortened version or slang for must.

Do you mean 'must' ?

If to does, it means an insistence that you
must do or say something by another person.

'You must do this''
''You must go downstairs''
''You must do my work and I (will) do yours''
