Was driving the works mini bus with disabled children and when we parked I displayed the badge and clock on the dashboard on the drivers side. When we returned I had a parking ticket for not displaying a valid disabled badge. Are there any rules for displaying the badge? Is it suppose to be on the passenger side because in the past a child has removed it from there so I always put it on the drivers side.

Hi Lou
Sorry to hear you got a ticket, this is a culture change from traffic wardens to parking attendants (PA), as councils see this as a lucrative revenue stream, as there expenses have risen and town halls need revamping by Armani, oops sounding a little biased now.
The perfect example was Portsmouth where i used to live, you could be a little cheeky and at least they would use a little common sense, (no targets or commission) but when they went to PA , well that's was it, a mere 8 wardens for the city on duty to 41 PA's! now you can see where there loyalty lied, the old saying mug the motorist, i agree you shouldn't park where you not supposed to or block others but a little common sense would got adrift - would it? i was advised by PA he got a small fee to every ticket issued... thus he was advised any car hanging over a box should be given a ticket, "see if he appeals". Anyway, on a down note, just because you have a blue badge, doesn't mean these can be parked anywhere, you still have the same rules as the rest, but this is where the common sense comes back into play, if your not obstructing anyone or the highways, i dint see what the problems is.
I would appeal! good luck, dint let the what-names win!
merry Xmas!

there is no hard and fast rule apart from the fact it as to be clearly visible and to be fair putting on the left hand side of the car would be preferable.
you could appeal but the hard part would had you actually placed the disabled badge on the dashboard in the first place it would be very hard for you to prove you had done so.

the appeal would depend on the good nature of the official who actually receives your letter and wether or not he/she believes your explanation send a photocopy of the badge with your appeal. if your appeal in the first instance is not successful no point in carrying on just pay the fine

there are lots of rules and regulations, re, the use of a disabled badge, they are there to be read and understood before you use the badge, I have a disabled badge and I try to be very care full in where and how to park. I find it most annoying when some people (sometimes not even the disabled person) abandon there cars for ease of access to where they are going with no consideration to other road or pavement users

1st off, it really depends on the mood of the police officer that wrote the ticket, whether or not they were in a good mood or foul mood.

2nd, it also depends on what the laws of your state/country states as to how it is to be displayed. Some American states state that it must be hung on the mirror, others state that it must be on the drivers side dash. Your best bet would be to go to the local library and look up the statute for this type of ticket or you might have a web address on the back of your badge.

Good luck and hope this helps.

SEE THE JUDGE Your Disabled may not be properly displayed or just out of date. Each state is different. Take pictures for evidence of where and when and how the van was parked with the current disabled tag. Ask around you did something wrong or perhaps the officer did something wrong. In Texas Parking in a Disabled spot costs $ 250 with out correct tag.
