Alot of answers,so I will try to do my best to clear the situation:
First,if you are behind a router with a NAT finction or firewall built in,so you no longer need any software firewall, you can even disable the windows firewall.
If you don't have a router,so you need a good firewall that has 2 protection layers which will protect both incoming and outgoing connections....I would recommend ZoneAlarm firewall,it will make a good work with NOD32 antivirus, also you may want to try the new firewall from ESET(the same company of NOD32)....the program called ESET Smart Security..it include antispam+antivirus+antispyware+firewall.
go here and download the 30 day trial:
http://www.eset.com/download/download_NT.php
and if you liked it,buy it.
Windows firewall is weak, and only protect your inbound connections...iot will only work good if you have a hardware firewall
Hope this is clear :)

If you are using the Microsoft Firewall, I suggest that you go to start and security and turn off this firewal. Microsoft does not have have a real fiewall, as are only protected from incoming rogue packets. A true firewall protects both incoming and outgoung. You need a firewall that protects your private data in your system.
Here is an excellent free two way firewall. Download the free for home personal use. Look under home on the webage.

You just need.
1 anti-spyware paid version
1 anti-virus program paid version
1 firewall paid version
1 pop up blocker paid version
If you go with extra it is your choice but if you do, pick one that deals with areas that the other version doesn't
Such as a firewall to block incoming traffic and attack methods, and the other firewall to hide your browser.
It is not recommended to go with extra protection you don't need though because it cost a lot of system resources to run these protections leaving you a lot less to run anything else.

I made a slight error in my message. You can have double protection on all except for anti-virus program. Adding double protection on the anti-virus program will cause problems in your system, they conflict one another.

I'd say certainly, even if you have Windows firewall enabled &/or a wireless router with firewall it's always best to have extra protection, ZoneAlarm do a free version.
