A Bush Family Member: How is it trolling?

2007-12-09 00:02:45 · update #1

No! No no no no. Since arguments and debates are opinionated, it is not trolling to switch to another view point. It is not beliberately giving a wrong answer, it is defending a side that you personally thought was incorrect.

Personal right-wrong does not mean factual right-wrong.

At times I do just to further debate, even if the position I am taking is not one I would otherwise agree with. It's actually quite fun to play Devil's Advocate in order to rile up the others. It keeps them on their feet and better prepares them to defend their arguments should that time come. Those who do not understand their opponent's stance do not truly understand their own.

Edit: Opinion is not "trolling." Politics is mostly opinion and spin. On the other hand, mouthing off irrelevant nonsense and not directly addressing the topic at hand IS considering trolling, which the initial complaintant has clearly done.

I usually try to see the other point of view to help me make my argument and counter any rebuttals before I get into it. I probably could take the other side but rarely do so.

Not about anything that I actually cared about... But it is easer to be firm in your beliefs if you know the converse. Then you can better understand why you believe as you do and not be a parrot repeating stupid bumper sticker slogans ad infinitum. Thought (and action) control of such an individual is as easy as pushing a button... The Bush Bashers that post here come to mind.

Absolutely. It's fun to play devils' advocate, although my sister would disagree with that...lol. I love to see people squirm when trying to defend a position they got from someone else.

a good debater can debate both sides of an issue, just look at our politicians who say they are for the war and turn around and say they aren't for the war, they know how to talk out of both sides of thier mouths
