My niece works Friday night and Saturday night at a local restaurant in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She is 16 years old trying to make some pocket money. She gets A$7.13 per hour. Is this the right level of pay? Shouldn't she get paid more as a casual waitress and works weekends? What about casual loading and weekend rates?

Tips are uncommon in Australia but the minimum wage is high, which makes up for it.
Try looking up - wageline.qld.gov.au - this should give the correct amount for your niece.
I looked up the right wage on wageline and came up with:
Under 17 with less than 3 months experience part time = $7.65 per hour.
Under 17 with less than 3 months experience casual = $9.41 per hour.
Monday to Saturday is counted as normal time up to a 10 hour day. Sunday is double time from the first hour.
Hope this helps

Give 'Wageline' a call (they are listed in the phone book). I had a similar experience when I was 16 and working. I was being underpaid. I called Wageline, who faxed all of the information to my employer who then increased my pay, with back-pay.

If she has signed a Workplace Agreement, there may not be any penalty rates for night time or weekend work.

I don't know about Australia, but in the US waitresses get paid about half that before tips. With tips, they could make twice that.
