The person would be very interested in your country and your culture, the language...everything. And very respectful. The person might even pretend to be one of you (disregarding his or her own heritage). Would you (and your people) be pleased or perhaps disgusted by this?

By the way, please tell me where you are from. Thanks!

I would definitely be pleased. In fact, so many Indian nationals prefer living in the Philippines than in India. Other foreign nationals have embraced the Filipino culture as well. Koreans, Germans, Americans, British, these are just some.

I would encourage him to draw himself closer to it. I am writing to you this Sunday morning from a little town called South Portland in Maine ('way up on the East Coast, or the right-hand tip) of the United States. This whole town has the feel of 1953, a village community, and everyone knows everyone else. I have lived here all my life and I am 64. Everyone knows me. I am on my 12-speed touring bicycle all the time. People toot their horns and wave often. I would never take offense if someone were genuinely interested in the United States. I would encourage that person to become better informed and knowledgeable about our customs and ways.

To some extent, this is what is happening when we exchange ideas here on Yahoo! Answers, isn't it? We are getting to know and better understand the world and people around us.

So long as the person has a healthy interest I should be very pleased and proud of my country. It would make me try a little harder to live up to the person's ideal of my country.

I'm from India and you often have people being fascinated by our cultural diversity and richness. I hate the patronising approach of some though.

often people have objective in direction of the subculture & custom they're pronounced. What you say sounds extraordinary to me. There might desire to be some areas in our subculture that i'm against them yet no longer the entire of it. And approximately Iranians, i'm a type of persons how am i able to blame them and not myself if there is something incorrect ?!! some people merely like nagging quite than doing some thing or making a transformation.

Hello!
A friend of mine just left our country (UK) to go back to her country (Germany) as she is a German citizen but she loves England and tries to spend as much time here as possible. I think it's nice that someone takes such a great interest in our culture and language! I wish I was the same, which is why I'm trying to learn her language to discover her culture and country.

I wouldn't be disgusted at all ! My father is Italian (so am I) and when he was 12, he and his siblings and their mother, fled Italy because there had been a War, there was nothing left only poverty and hunger ! He moved to Southamerica, not forgetting his country, still loving it but he loved the peace and correctness of the country he moved to. You can feel "patriotism" to the country which gives you work and greater possibilities, I firmly believe in that.

If you pretend to be another race I personally think thats disgusting. If you embrace another culture with open arms, well thats fantastic.

From Canada...with Parents from France and the Philippines.

It is easy for me to imagine myself being that way, at this point. I can't say I love another country or culture MORE than the US, but I do have a great fondness for one.

Someone once said to me, if you don't think you're living in the best country in the world then move!
I would be happy for anyone to come to Australia if they were truly interested in our country and culture.
It's the ones that try and change it that annoys me!

From Australia :))

People who come from other countries to Australia and embrace the Australian way of life are well received, but if they come here and try to change Australia to where they have left then they are a waste of space.
