I've never heard of using clorox, but you should run very hot tap water through the drain after each use and pour a handful of baking soda into the kitchen drain about once a week, then run very hot tap water through it. Or pour 1 cup vinegar or lemon juice in and let it stand for 30 minutes. Then run hot water through the drain. These steps will clean the drain of odors.

The only thing bleach will do is make it smell better. Most clogs are caused by grease, oil and soap residue. Avoiding dumping grease/oil down the drains will help. If you have a septic tank, using excessive bleach will kill the bacteria that makes it work. I use Draincare by Zep once a month. It is an enzyme cleaner that is safe for all drainage systems and piping. Enzyme cleaners cling to and eat organic matter.

Boiling water usually works rather well and won't damage pipes. I seriously don't think clorox will make any difference. The best way to keep kitchen drains clean is don't dump any cooking grease down them. Dump your cooking grease and oil in the trash or keep an empty tin can in your freezer for grease, it will solidify and you can throw it out with your trash.

my friend does that...i believe she does it once a month...my guess would be a cup or 2...i'd run hot water down the drain after it sits a short time.

clorox isn't very environmentally friendly! The other answers are better if it is grease that you want to clear.
