3 to 7 days is average, with about 28 days between. It is a force of nature, not choice, unless you take the pill, in which case your period won't start until you quit taking them for a few days. Wait too long, and you run the risk of some really nasty infections and complications. That stuff needs to be purged from your body regularly to keep you healthy.

My periods last 7 days. The normal number of days for a woman's period is from 3-7 days. If it goes past that number of days then that is an indicator that something is wrong.

As for increasing our period time, if you are talking about number of days there is nothing available for that yet. When starting out with periods it can take about a year or two for the body to fully adjust to the changes going on inside of it.

I would recommend talking to your mom as well for even more information and also your doctor whenever you have your next check-up to see what they say.
