Is there a commercial battery pack (5 amps needed) that I can buy and plug in to, to run the blower fan and auger (if I have lost my electric power) or can one be made from, say 12 volt batterys? This stove would be worthless if the electricity goes out. Even something to run the stove for 12 hours or so, until electric power is restored? Thanks to anyone for an answer. Dukie

I agree that a power inverter is probably your only option. Unless you want to change the motors to 12 volt motors.
Power inverters are actually pretty efficient. The apparent power loss is because the 12 volt battery must provide 10 times the amphers as the normal house 120 volt line for the same power. I assume the 5 amps is at 120 volts so you will draw 50 amps at 12Volts from the battery. I would recomend a deep cycle battery as they are designed to be discharged/ recharged as opposed to a regular car battery which normally does not get comepletly discharged. Get one with a high reserve. You can use a car to recharge it but I would not keep the car running to keep it charged. You will use more energy to keep the car running than you get from the stove. Rather if you need to, use jumper cables and recharge the battery as needed. You may email me for more info if you want.

What I did for mine was I went to a car parts store, and bought an 1100 watt power converter that can be hooked up to a car battery. Then ran a short extension cord to the pellet stove.
Two things to remember.
1. When converting power there is a great energy loss, therefore it will drain your battery quickly.
You have to keep your car running to provide enough electricty to keep the battery charged enough that it will keep the power converter running.
2. The shorter the extension cord the less power that is lost between the converter and the pellet stove. You also loose alot of power when you use more than one extension cord. So find an extension cord that would best fit the distance you need.

I've been thinking about your same question since the power went when out and those pellets continued to smolder. I've been thinking about getting Stove Sentry. The following link should answer any of your questions. Unfortunately, I do not know how long a marine battery would last in an event of a power failure....hopefully long enough for power to be restored or for you to turn the auger off.

We had trouble with our electricity constatly going off recently. It was going off for only a couple of seconds at a time and then coming back on, but then it went off for an hour and half and of course it was about 9:00pm on a Sunday night so I couldn't call anybody. I was getting in a complete panic until it suddenly came back on again. Luckily it stayed on until the next day when I was able to call the company who eventually fixed it.
