Because smoking is a choice, and people know the risks. I am a non smoker but don't agree with banning it. I don't feel any government has the right to make personal decisions for people.

However, dangerous toys are another story. Most people can't determine if paint has lead in it by looking at it or know if a toy has a dangerous defect. Protecting children from dangerous products such as these is a legitimate reason to ban an item or to make the manufacturer label it appropriately.

I think a responsible and caring employer should turn around to the council and police and tell them to enforce their own god damm ban. What did people expect was going to happen asking civilians to do the job of councils or Police officers? I have no legal experience so don't take my advise but my view would be "DON'T DO IT" its not her job. If the councils and the government want a smoking ban then let them take care of enforcement. This smoking ban, especially in pubs, bars and clubs is making people very angry indeed and I think there is a lot more of this to come. Why does this government ALWAYS get it wrong and go over the top?

They haven't banned any toys for health and safety. Some companies have "recalled" toys due to unsafe levels of lead. Lead is hazardous to people, causing neurological problems. And its effect is stronger in children because they are smaller and therefore can have a higher concentration compared to adults when exposed. Also, children may taste their toys or chew on them, and ingested the lead.

Because no one will start rioting, and protesting over toys, but all the smokers would get angry if you banned smoking.

They see it as their own right, that they live in a free country and should be allowed to do as they please, but they don't always consider other people's rights when they smoke out in public and force people to breath in that horrible smoke.

Children play with toys all the time.I think they could be dangerous if they were left alone with them. You know like choking on loose things.

Because we have to protect our children from that which might hurt them, because they don't know better. People who smoke should know better. No excuse now days not to, with warnings on every packet. I guess the "grown ups" get to choose to be foolish.
