There were wars because of religions. I believe if there are no religions then there will be no religious wars.

If the preacher believes in the existence of god, then he wouldn't be lying right?

If you want to be ignorant, go ahead. Most of the serious Christians I know (not all, alas, there are some idiots) talk about the importance of faith, which is accepting some things you cannot prove. Whatever you want to say about the advisability of faith (and I for one have an easier time with it than I do with most doctrine) it makes the idea of calling a Believer who preaches it a liar a logical impossibility.

Since I'm going to be uncharitable let me just add that most of the answers you will read in questions asked here (and even some Newsgroups beginning with comp.os ) should convince anyone that formal religion is never more than an excuse for Holy War. In particular they are not the reason, which is pride (for example this post), and removing the excuse will only make some of their practitioners go looking for another one.

Lying, by definition, involves an intent to deceive. That would make some preachers liars, and the rest merely mistaken.

He believes in god so he wouldn't be lying.... just not knowing that it is not true. Mistaken is the word.
