I do agree a few more details would help.

How was it installed initially?

The why you took it down part might not matter?

You could use adhesive; though I wouldn't.

You should define where the studs are.

Etc.

I was wondering about your question. Did you have the wainscoting up,and it fell down? it doesn't matter. When I put mine up, I used Liquid Nails Panelling Adhesive. And that was installed on a stable, dry wall surface. I then tapped in some finishing panelling nails to better secure it . You need to be more specific, I could give you a little more information .
