Many of the writings and communications are made complicated purposefully, so that you can feel that you don't understand and call them intelligent.

But what they don't understand is communication should be made simple, so that message is reached to the other person.

Did I complicate you with my words ....hahahahah

I did not mean to ... :)

Life is simple is only a valid statement when you see the world in black and white and very few shades of gray. I think the difference between an adult and child mind is the ability to see that the world is full of gray.

The bank robber may be trying to help his family; in Spiderman III he was trying to pay for an expensive cure to help is daughter. He was a not a totally evil person, even though he committed murder. When Spiderman found out that this man had murdered his father he almost killed him, but he saw that there was some good in this man and that the act of murder was a wrong one. The issue of if he was a criminal or not was black and white, but the more complex issue of if he was evil or not had a shade of gray.

Communication is a hard skill to master and it takes humans a few years to get to the point where we can start sending them to school to learn how to use the written word to communicate. But, even with years of study we are limited. In French there is no word for cool, only tepid for mildly warm. This is a fault in the language that illustrates the fault in any language; complex ideas are hard to relate and convey. Communication has to be made more complex to convey more complex ideas.

The English language is one of the most difficult languages to learn, but it is one of the most descriptive and powerful. Mandarin is the most compact. The reason for both is that it is easy to make a new word (ore in Mandarin a new character) to convey a new idea. A disc can be many things, but if I call it a computer disk then you know I am talking about a 3.5” floppy disk that holds information in magnetic form. A CD is a compact disk that holds its information with bumps and grooves that can be read by a laser. The purpose of both is the same; to store information for a computer, but the technology and description are very different. We didn’t have words for those items until the last 40 years.

I can tell you how to be a radar air traffic controller, but you won’t really understand the job until you do it. It is just to complex to describe adequately and even then I need pictures and hands on experience to really teach it to you. I have passed up an easy to answer question because I needed an image to answer it with and you can’t put that into Yahoo Answers very easily. I can describe the borders of your nation, India, but a picture is worth 1,000 words and makes such a better description. A map is even better than a satellite picture because it has specialized information that we need to understand the threat from China and Pakistan. The map will also let you understand why your nation is so heavily forested, the Himalayan mountain range blocks a lot of water from passing by it. This is why there is a rain forest on your side and why the Middle East is far dryer, only warmer dryer air can make it over that mountain range. This is something that it would be hard to explain without at least a mental map of the region.

Yes, it is nice to have things made simple and sometimes my answers are simplifications of a complex term that a person can’t understand. But, I couldn’t do that simplification if I didn’t understand the more complex nature of the words and its related terms. This answer is an example of that idea: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ag.zUXNjELtDLI5MdlluhmHsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071208133421AAZHpce&show=7#profile-info-EdylM2Y3aa

It was a hard question for me to answer, because while I know a lot about writing and English literature, and found the term in Wikipedia quickly; the description was complex enough that I had to think about it and work on my answer to make it understandable. I told the questioner (in my thank-you note) that she could have found the answer herself in Wikipedia just as easily as I did, but she might not have understood it; the idea was fairly complex. My description was good, but when another answerer pointed out the work of Monty Python I mentioned how the work of that comedy team illustrated the literary concept even better. It was more than just comedy, and more than just poking fun at complex English institutions and ideas, it was also done in an over-elaborate fashion; and that is the style of literature she wanted to understand.

Simple is nice, but complex is needed in a complex life and that has always been true. Making a flint tipped spear sounds like a simple idea, but to the cave men Og and Nog it was the height of technology and trying to explain it was a complex idea, and idea that needed language to be able to communicate properly. As we get more complex in our life we need a more complex understanding. Humans have the longest childhood, because they have the most complex society. 100 years ago a grade school education was all that was needed to be a success in life, 50 years ago a high school education was all that was needed, now days a college degree is needed and in business it is common for people to get a master’s degree so they can get promoted over the rank and file. We have no choice but to face the complex nature of life. Not only that but our understanding of things evolves and changes. We once thought the dinosaurs were extinct slow and lumbering creatures. Now we know the earlier Earth had a higher oxygen content and it was a warmer climate. Dinosaurs were just as fast as some modern mammals and T-Rex was an awesome predator. Most of the dinosaurs were killed off when the great asteroid collision that helped shape the Gulf of Mexico. We thought that only sharks, alligators and crocodiles survived along with the mammals, but now we know most of the smaller dinosaurs evolved to become birds and gained wings thus improving their chances of survival.

If everything in this world could be simplified easily then my answers wouldn’t be such long essays. My last answer took up 3 pages and there are still some ideas that I couldn’t fit in. It is the nature of man and his/her technology that our lives are becoming more complex. We are reaching a saturation point and many old people don’t know how to use computers, but almost all children do. It is far easier to learn as a child than as an adult, our complex lives and our complex brain forms a complex structure that grows as we grow and mature. A child is just starting and their minds are more adaptable for learning.

Quite the contrary Gentleman,I understand you perfectly. The main obstacle is or rather are differences in customs and language. For example body gestures in one country may be polite whereas in another they are insults. Also the same words in one country may mean something different in other countries.
A major problem is locating interpreters that understand both languages intricately including idioms. One example is if I make an ok with my fingers,is an insult in other countries. We must be very careful in the words we choose and be able to explain what we mean in a variety of ways.
Another thing is to rid ourselves of the myths we have of other religions and languages. This will take tolerance and understanding.Never make fun or a mockery of others's beliefs.Everyone believes they are worshipping the True God.All any religion has is Faith.Faith is at best Belief, not knowledge. We all must see the truth in that. What is necessary is to Respect the Beliefs of one another.
If someone becomes angry at us for a word or phrase we use,we should inquire why?Perhaps we can reword ourselves so that we are understood.Of course I am assuming you are not trying to be angry.
Gentleman ,you can feel when you are being misunderstood right?Seekout the proper words to bring understanding to the conversation.Nothing will start a fight quicker than misunderstanding.Of course greed and other selfish wishes will also but that is for another conversation.Never take for granted people know what you are meaning to say.Every now and then ask them if they understand you ,and every now and then have them ask you.
Gentleman conversation cannot be made simple. It takes hard work and patience.I wish that was not the way it has to be.But if we are sincere and really try I think we can do it.You know in Christianity this is the result of the falling of the Tower of Babel. When Babel fell, different languages were spread throught the world.Sometime I will tell you that story.Your Always Friend larry m

de@r gEntLe m@n,

Lolz....no not at all. You didn't complicate me with your words.

Even i agree. Some people have the habit to make the communication very hard. I think they do it purposefully because they think that by using such such hard and complicated words, people will think that they are good literates and that they really have a very good vocabulary.

But people will think it that way when they will understand a word. When a person is unable to understand a language, it becomes really very difficult for him to understand the other person's language and to carry on with the conversation for a little longer.

But people should try to understand that by using such words they are complicating the whole situation and that people may not like to speak to them because people might think that they use such a language which goes above the head, so its better not to talk.

So i think people should have a habit of communicating in a simple language so that others should not maintain such attitude and thinking towards them...tc...sweet dreamz...bye...

Oh! That is why most people find it a very pleasant, refreshing experience to talk to kids, children, and why?... even babies!(though it is that 'baby-talk' , without words)! We seem to communicate effortlessly with all 'innocent' persons, whether it is adults or children (it just so happens that children are invariably innocent, though ignorant of it!).
If we notice, in the recent century, (unlike till the past one,) most of our conversation somehow gets 'translated' into commercial values! Long ago, most of the conversations were more of non-commercial type!
As the life becomes complex, the mind too becomes complex, and what comes out of such a mind has to be complicated(now, to such an extent that what is simple is no more easy..... ha ha.... even movie makers use simple talk as punch lines and make money, since it is a bit rare)!

If someone is smart, he should try to communicate things clearly so that everyone can understand. The more the explanation is clear, the more it shows that the things that person explains are clear to him and understood by him.

I agree to a point...

There is alot to be said for something that is complicated in a beautiful way... a poetically written cryptic message... but there are points where you have to draw the line....

Go have a read of my question about 'cryptic messages' ... I think it sums up what I have to say on the subject quite nicely....
