Same species. Theoretically, they could produce viable offspring. The easiest way would be in vitro, with a surrogate host for the developing fetus.

A male chihuahua could mount a female great Dane, if somebody put him up to it.

I would suggest, if you are going to breed between these breeds, that the female is the Great Dane (judicious use of step ladder or tall chair might be in order). Otherwise, both the mother and pup will die before birth. A male Dane and female Chihuahua cannot produce viable offspring.

Same species, but inerbreeding may cause problems in the view of natural selction, although the total result of intentional gene mixing is somewhat random, it's quite artificially selective.

Mankind has dictated the evolution of domestic species.

This helps to explain why the species has become so varied in it's physical qualities. Nature would work to extinguish too many varieties within a species through competition for food and territory, but obviously different qualities in a pet are desirable to people of different interests.

The reason you don't see many mixes between chiuauas and great danes is likely a result of breeding complications. Nature rarely provides a ladder, but they're definately capable of mating.

Obviously, with the difference in physical stature, physical complications may be expected by the female of the smaller species, unless they're lucky enough to donate the majority of the size traits. It would have to be a damn lucky chiuaua not to die giving birth to a half great dane.

they might reproduce jointly, genetically. they do no longer for sure because of the fact of their length distinction. A chihuahua might desire to no longer carry a super Danes doggies, because of the fact's just to small. Plus, because of contemporary inbreeding of canines often, (that's how they have been given the different breeds), especially lots any extra suitable inter-breeding will effect in deformation (with maximum canines, notwithstanding if bodily or mentally (very dumb canines). I knew somebody who had a muddle of doggies that have been 0.5 chihuahua and 0.5 pitbull. they had to tug the chihuahua off the pitbull after mating. super Danes and Chihuahuas have been given their length distinction from how they have been bred, the main important of super Danes have been selectively bred with different super super Danes and vice versa with Chihuahuas. notwithstanding if that's a contravention of the definition of species it improve into brought about by ability of guy. although, merely because of the fact they do no longer often mate, that does no longer mean that that's in violation of the definition of a species. in case you think of approximately it in those words, then a platypus are additionally in violation, because of the fact they're mammals who lay eggs, in case you notice the place i'm getting at.

Canis familiaris is the scinitific name for the domestic dog, it does not denote one particular breed of dog. Great Daneas and Chihuahuas are completely different breeds, though.

Yes, exactly the same species. They reproduce just like any other dogs, although it could be a little awkward :)
