Everything, not to the point of obessing but appearances are what people judge you on first and you want to put a good first impression forward, so it's best to take care of yourself as best as you can.

My looks mean a lot and very little at the same time. To clarify:
I don't much care about my looks as far as fashion, hairstyles, complexion, or other things go. I just wear plain jeans and t-shirts or flannel, and have a standard crew cut. My complexion isn't great but it's the best I can do. Really, I just make sure that I am clean and neat, and that's all.
They do mean a lot to me in that I am a transsexual. I am pre-op, so I still look like a girl even though I really am a guy, and that bothers me a lot.

I am in no way vain either, but I always take the time to make sure I look good when i walk out of the door.
I get my hair cut once a week, I get mani/pedis done, get my eye brows done, make sure my skin looks good with products and the help of a dermatologist..lol
I just want to make a good first impression when i meet people

I try to be appropriate for the situation. If I'm going to work I want to project a certain image that's different then if I'm hanging out with my friends. And I like playing with makeup and playing with different looks sometimes.
But the things that I get insecure about aren't my looks. I'm not drop dead gorgeous, but I think I clean up well. I get dressed, throw on some makeup, do something with my hair and start my day. I don't really do anything incredibly labor intensive when it comes to beauty. Because I feel like it's something you should enjoy and do for yourself. So, if I paint my nails it's because I enjoy it and not because I'm necessarily worried about being attractive. Because what's attractive to one person may not be attractive to the next.
If people see my dark circles, my zits or me having a really bad hair day, I'm fine. It's when people see me having a stupid moment or being a brat that I get self-conscious.

Well you are a girl/woman! Of course you spend a lot of time on your appearance. I can't imagine how any of you gals do it, but then I'm a guy. I pay more attention to my appearance if I'm going to be social with someone but if I'm at home or just going on errends then I don't.
I would like to pay more attention to how my hair looks but it is so cold up here in Minnesota during the winter that I have to wear a hat and it always makes my hair look like crap. I have given up on that unless I'm going someplace really special.
I know that you weren't looking for long answers, but if you are either trying to find a guy or hold a guy you already have, then obviously you have to care more about your appearance than someone like me that is divorced and 64 y/o and not looking.

I think most of us women care about our looks and so we work at it. It's not vain. We just want to feel better and look as good as we can. It's uplifting! My looks don't mean as much to me as the type of person that I am and my intelligence. That's always attractive! Rather than just look good on the outside, it is equally important to be "beautiful" on the inside and have something going for yourself.

Yes, I work very hard at this too. Lately I have been sick with a sinus cold and haven't been doing very good but usually I don't leave the house without makeup and the best I have to present!

Like you, i am not vain, but I am thankful I am not a mutt!! lol I do take care of myself, my skin, hair, I workout...I want to stay as youthful as I can. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

lol i get what you mean well in my case i dont tend to worry about it much to the point where it becomes an addiction i see it like this, if i have time to do my hair, nails, makeup and all that crap i'll do it but enjoy it at the same time cause if i do it without any effort i'll probably look like a total mess afterwards.

I have always been more concerned about who I am on the inside to spend a lot of time on the outside, I have long nails but I don't paint them, I don't wear makeup, I prefer to go with natural!!
