Hello therehastobeme,
Franco Zeffirelli's "Jesus of Nazareth"
Robert Powell is one of the best "Jesus" castings ever, as well as Olivia Hussey as the Virgin Mary.
I've always liked it because Zeffirelli includes several tableau's based on classical works of art that you can spot during the pivotal scenes.
And the truly all star cast is amazing when you think of it.

I cannot possibly pick one or even a few. I've been a film fan for too long, and I was raised on epics since Cecil B. DeMille was still creating them as I was growing up.
My favorites include:
LOTR trilogy
Star Wars saga
The Ten Commandments
Spartacus
Cleopatra
Gone With the Wind
Lawrence of Arabia
The Mummy~Brendan Fraser
The Mummy Returns~These two films definitely qualify as epic, especially the second film with its battle between good and evil.
Doctor Zhivago
The Greatest Story Ever Told
King of Kings
The Fall of the Roman Empire
El Cid
Ben-Hur
Troy
Kingdom of Heaven
I'll keep this list shorter than my previous epics list which reached~Are you ready?~epic proportions! *giggle*

Do you consider "Echoes" by Pink Floyd Prog? If so, then it's my favorite. I've heard people say it's just psychedelic and others say it's progressive. I prefer the latter. But if it isn't prog, then my favorite is In the Court of the Crimson King.
