albert camus would have ben 94 some two weeks ago; he advocated hedonis and a duty to love in the midst of the absurd! he was quite different from sartre!
just mind, that his father died when he was 2 and his mother and grandmother were both illiterate, still he was awarded the nobel-prize for literature!

Good quote that I like to tell people... It was displayed at the Body Worlds event, which travelled across the US. It was displayed near the fake corpses of several human figures... "Death is the release from all pain and complete cessation, beyond which our suffering will not follow. It will return us to that condition of tranquility, which we had enjoyed before we were born. Should anyone mourn the deceased, then he must also mourn the unborn." Seneca I have a poster on my wall, in my room, which depicts a skeleton standing with its hand stretched out, as if too reach for something. This quote is across the bottom of the picture. It's a great quote, do you know any others that are like it?

Every existing thing is born without reason, prolongs itself out of weakness, and dies by chance.
Jean-Paul Sartre. Much like your Camus existentialism reigns. And as the great man once said, everything has been figured out, everything except how to live!

Yes, I think I can understand that feeling. There is a very bleak cold place that we can find, due to our circumstances, a situation that happens or comes about, loss, grief, despair ...

But yet, most of us can go on, can think, 'well, tomorrow' ... not even to think that tomorrow will be better but just that it will come and with it all the *potential* each new day brings.

How fortunate I am that I can feel that way.

Cheers :-)

Albert Camus - 1913 - 1960 - Existentialist

Not a bad quote but nothing new or special is being said here. He is not one of my favorites, is he one of your favorites?

kd lang put that quote in her Invicible Summer album. It's a beautiful thought -- that our happiness depends a whole lot on what's inside of us, rather than the circumstances surrounding us. It's possible to be dirt poor and happy, and it's also possible to be filthy rich and miserable. Cultivate the happy summer in yourself.

It's analogical to "in the darkest of nights, there is still light" or "In our bleakest times, we can still find hope within"
