A living cell is far far far more complex and difficult to make than an atomic bomb.
we are still learning about how normal cells work, how the genome works, how stem cells are programmed to become particular cell types etc etc.
BUT eventually, we will know enough about all of these incredibly complex things to start making our own cells from scratch.
As someone has already said, the people behind the human genome project are working on artificial genes....the first step to artificial cells.

Because splitting an atom is nowhere near as complicated. An atom is very simple compared to a cell. Cells contain numerous organelles eg mitochondria, lysosomes, Golgi Apparatus, smoothe & rough endoplasmic reticulum... All these organelles have specific functions involving different substances, many of which are complex chemical compunds. A cell also has a nucleus, which unlike that of an atom effectively controls these organelles. Then there's DNA, RNA, genes etc. Sufficed to say, even without explaining what everything does, you can see how much more complicated cells are, and recreating it is way in the future; I think we might one day be able to, but I also think it will depend on us having very advanced nanotechnology. Frankly I think it's a damn good thing we can't do that now, we're not ready to have that sort of capability.

Producing a living cell is far more complicated than an atomic bomb. We don't have to create complex machines that have diameters 1000 times as small as a human hair to make Nukes. We will likely eventually produce at least crude living cells. We are about at the making of virus stage and modifying living cells.

An atom bomb has about 10 parts to it. A cell, even a simple one, has dozens of membranes and thousands of interacting proteins and chemicals. It is not the only thing that deprives us from being God.
We are quite God-like in many respects -
- we allow people to die needlessly of treatable diseases,
- we allow wars to occur,
- we allow people to starve to death,
- we allow children to become orphans at very young ages, and live for a short time in deplorable conditions.
- We allow violence to occur against defenceless women and children.
Rest assured, we are becoming more God-like every day.

Maybe the people who run the world are more interested in destruction than life.
However man has now learned how to produce stem cells from fat to aid helping sickness.
