Maybe because our music was a lot better. And the new music isn't really music it is usually just a sampling from past songs...with some buzz words thrown in.
I like many of the new songs that are really new and the musicians actually took the time to write the music...instead of stealing it.
I hope I didn't upset anyone...but that is my opinion. If you look back at the lyrics of classic rock...you will find that most of it was based on ancient history and myths. It was approached in an educated manner. Almost, all of the good writers had a very good education in history and humanities.
Barring the meaningful songs. They also wrote in broader terms. There is a huge difference between..."You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" and "Do it in the Butt". They are both about the same thing...it's just a matter of class. They usta' leave room for you to put your own meaning to the song.
Edit:
I am now wondering how many people that grew up listening to BTO are gonna go back and really listen to the words. I was setting up the sound for them once...and I asked if that is what it is about. I got a bunch of it means what it means...but, I did get one thumbs up.
2nd edit...Robbobru is right...that is good. Like I said before...if the new artist take the time to make real music...I like it too.

Do you know why I like the oldies? Mostly, because one can understand the words. The songs are in a complete sentence, and not just a repeat of the same words over-and-over again. In the oldies, they sing. They have a musical voice. They have talent, and variety.
Today, it's just loud banging, instruments which are louder than a Boeing 747, and no-talent screaming. And of course, don't forget the profanity that abounds. Now as far as the rappers, I find no talent in that. They can rhyme, but they can't sing, and they don't present good moral values.
In the oldies, there used to be known stars with stickability. They wouldn't fade away. They had good talent, and variety. Today one mostly sees a bunch of badly dressed or undressed raunchy looking dudes. One knows them as a band and not as an individual.
Listening to music with ear plugs doesn't turn me on.

Probably because some of the classic rock music has been updated a little and you prefer the original version.
The classic rock is derived from earlier rock and roll songs and music.
An evening news broadcast about music, the reporter played some Bach,Beethoven and some classical composers and they liked it although they had never heard it before.

Classic rock like Aerosmith, AC/DC, Lynard Skynard are truly legends in music, they are timeless songs it seems. I know alot of teens that like classic rock too.
But the music today is horrible, especially that R&B and rap crap!

they are kind of like clothing trends, they just go in a huge circle. Plus, their parents probably listen to the same music you do and that's what they were brought up with. You can't stand their music because you've grown up with your on music and listened to it for all of your life. That's my guess...

Great! My young adult kids get cheesed orf when my wife or I complete a chorus or line from a song they have just heard; and they say "oh, no. Another 60's song again"
Can't knock great music and lyrics, regardless of vintage

Those that do are tired of the nonsense rap. They're looking for music with more meaning and something they can understand. Notice rap is on it's way out? Butta ching....
