It's one thing for someone, even as overtly pubicity seeking as Oprah. to privately support one Party or candidate but has she used her own publicity machine the wrong way by so openly supporting Obama?

...and will this course of action possibly alienate her from other candidates?

Your right, she isn't a journalist but certainly a TV show host who no doubt relies on the willingness of people in Public Life, Politicians included, to come on her show to discuss various issues.

The problem with what oprah is doing is that it's a bias thing. She would never use her platform to be neutral. If a republican conservative was doing what she is doing that person would be castrated by the media. They simply don't live by their own rules. Yes, she is wrong in using her public trust platform to promote her agenda. It's not enough to say, "Well if you don't like it then don't support me". Albeit, it is the real power we have to boycott.

Yes, unfortunately, I think she has. The problem with those who support her in this, is they are overlooking the fact that Oprah's audience are pimple brained moron robots and will do anything Oprah says rather than take the more difficult route of finding out more about the candidate on their own and using their own judgment to pick who should represent them.

Yes, it's a sad day in America when the vast majority of folks can no longer think on their own and need some bubble headed TV personality to do it for them. Remember Rosie?

OOOOO nO! Is no where safe for me NOT see that woman's name in my face? On the television, at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore with her Oprah's Book of the Month propaganda like we don't know what to choose, worse yet, at the end of the grocery checkout line there's her glamour photo--the only person ever on the cover-- of her OWN magazine! And now she's invaded my world of Yahoo Answers about her support of Obama. She's crossed my line and path a long time ago just in being into everything that I just ignore her.

No, I don't THINK so. She hsa NEVER before thrown her support to a Presidential candidate. This, as she says, is a new paridigm for her. And Obama BETTER be able to deliver the goods or this MIGHT be the LAST candidate shes supports.

He does NOT have to win the nomination OR the Presidency to make her support justified, but if he has any REAL skeletons in his closet I am afraid that Oprah's opinions will start to have about as much cachet as MY opinions, subject to ONE press of the button at my local voteing booth.

It is apparent that the right (I am a PART of that VAST right wing conspiracy) is gunning for Hillary on all fronts. Limbaugh is taking EVERYTHING that she is reported to have said and saying that it is an error or a flip flop on the issues.

Flip Flop worked for Bush in the Kerry contest because Kerry was so DAMN blantant about various positions on his war vote but they need to be careful about using it too liberally to define dem Dem's, it COULD boomerang on them.

I personally think that Oprah is just acting as a star struck teenager and as an opportunist as it pertains to Obama. He is black and it would not sit right with her core audiance (black OR white) if she were to continue her habit of withholding her influence by staying on the sidelines in a Presidential race.

Of course not. Is Obama the first politician to receive an endorsement form a celebrity? No so how can Oprah possibly cross the line when she is doing what anyone else does. Plus how many celebrities support her in her efforts? Has George Clooney crossed the line? Has John Bon Jovi crossed the line? Oprah supported Arnold when he ran for govahnah. I am just glad that she doesn't seem to support Hilary.

You know, I have one concern... why is it when Oprah had a chance to build an amazing school it was one in Africa for black girls? She was asked why she built one there instead of in America and she said in Newsweek

“I became so frustrated with visiting inner-city schools that I just stopped going. The sense that you need to learn just isn’t there,” she says. “If you ask the kids what they want or need, they will say an iPod or some sneakers. In South Africa, they don’t ask for money or toys. They ask for uniforms so they can go to school.”

This statement has irritated me from so many levels. There are plenty of Children in America that would love a quality education and wouldn't need a 40 million dollar school to do it in.

Why did she build this school for African girls that happen to be black? Why is she endorsing the first presidential candidate in her life to the point of traveling with him to several states? Because he is black as well. Sorry, it just seems obvious with the way she has been supporting things lately that she is more pro black then she is pro American.

She did get her education in an American school right?

I'm just saying......

Yes, just because he wears a purple shirt shouldn't make any difference!
It is like a cult. I've heard that if a writer gets a recommendation from Oprah their book is an instant best seller!!! Those TV fans of hers could make a difference if they would get off their a** and actually register to vote!!! But I wouldn't count on it because it would take them away from the tube to long!!!

You spoke back your person question. Oprah reported she would have not have been given any political applicants on her teach as quickly as the primaries started and he or she has been actual to her be conscious. As you suggested Obama became on there earlier. and that i've got faith so became McCain. So what's the undertaking? She made a fact and has caught by it.

As a citizen of the United States, she has the right to endorse or support anyone that she chooses. Actors, actresses, musicians, and other famous people endorse causes, politicians, charities, etc... all of the time. This is no different. She's not FORCING anyone to vote one way or the other.

When I saw this on the news I thought it was interesting. I'm a fan of Oprah, but I didn't feel like I HAD to vote a certain way because of her endorsement. In fact, I still don't know who I'm going to vote for and I think anyone who would vote for someone without educating themselves beforehand is stupid. Oprah doesn't have a gun to my head or anyone else's. She's entitled to her endorsement and the same rights that every other US citizen has.

I think it is very inappropriate for Oprah to openly support any political candidate, unless it is Hillary. Oprah join join with Barbra Steisand and support the Clintons - only that would be acceptable! God bless America - the land where you are free to do or say anything I agree with!
