Well, I don't know about any other PS3 owners, but I use my 60GB PS3 to play PS1 and PS2 games and I've transferred all of my PS1 and PS2 memory card saves to my PS3. Basically, the 60GB PS3 can become all of the previous Playstation consoles all in one and that's why the full backwards compatiblity is wanted.

I've even beaten some of my old PS1 games over again on my PS3 that I haven't played in years such as Megaman Legends, and Crash Bandicoot 2. My 17 year old sister has played Spyro 1, 2, and 3 on my 60GB PS3 since getting it and a whole lot more older PS1 games. Just playing those games over again just took me back in time, I love those games.

I even still have PS2 games that I want to buy!!! There are 3 more PS2 games that I want to buy: Killzone, Zone of the Enders 2 and Gran Turismo 4.

The additional $100 bucks for backwards compatibility really isn't a waste for me because I still play PS1 and PS2 games on my PS3.

Some people trade in their PS2 to save a few bucks, so they're out of luck if they get a 40 gb and want to play their PS2 games.

PS2 won't last forever so if it breaks, then they either have to spend 130 bucks to get a new PS2 (100 bucks come January 2008) or spend the 100 bucks now and get a PS3 that can play PS2 games.

Some people don't want to switch their cables back and forth between machines. It's more convenient to have it on the PS3 and then use the PS3 to play PS2 games when they want to play PS2 games. They could get an AV selector, but the AV selector isn't cheap.

Think about how popular the Wii's Virtual Console have become. Old time gamers still play old games, and the next generation gamers also play old games.

well people might sell there ps2 so they can buy a ps3 and still have ps2 games left that they like to play still

maybe people have alot of ps2 controllers and want to plug there 4 ps2 controllers in there ps3 and using the wireless controllers an extra to play multiplayer games without spending alot on the ps3 controllers?

maybe people want more gigs so they can use more space

but if u dont care about any of those just get a 40gb
which i hear uses less power and the wifi signal is stronger

more gigs more spaace!
