why aren't they making it in order?
i mean, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe wasn't
even the first book of the chronicle.
Now they're making Prince Caspian?

what you guys are talking about is the PUBLICATION ORDER not the CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER..

Publication order:
1. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
2. Prince Caspian
3. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
4. The Silver Chair
5. The Horse and His Boy
6. The Magician's Nephew
7. The Last Battle

Chronological Order
1. The Magician's Nephew
2. The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
3. The Horse and His Boy
4. Prince Caspian
5. The Voage of the Dawn Treader
6. The Silver Chair
7. The Last Battle

I think that The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was the first book released, but there is at least one book released later which is a prequel.

OK, based on your "additional details" they seem to be making the movies in publication order, not chronological order. May not be a smart move, since it takes 3-4 years to make each movie and they will have to recast a lot of the young parts.

I think that they are not making it in order since they want to focus the movies on the adventures of the four Pevensies. The first book "The Magician's Nephew" does not have the four Pevensies in it. The book after the "The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe" contains only a small part of Lucy and Edward. If I remember correctly, Susan and Peter were merely mentioned. I think they are arranging the movies this way so that there will be some sort of continuity in the story such that non-readers of the book could understand the "Chronicles of Narnia" by following the story of the four Pevensies. It would probably appear chaotic to strictly Narnia movie-goers if the recurring characters do not appear in the next movie.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was the first book in the series. Prince Caspian is the second book.

The chronological order doesn't matter. They were meant to be read in the order they were published. This is done in many series. Take Star Wars, for instance. The first three movies occurred, chronologically, after the last three movies.

If you read The Magician's Nephew before The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, you probably wouldn't understand a lot of things in the story.

Probably they just want the movies to be mainly about the Pevensies. They want to give continuity to the story somehow by keeping the same characters.

The books were written in certain order but it's best if you read them in a different order, in my book set The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is book 2 and Prince Caspian is book 4.
