I walked out of my job, and they told me I don't get the hours I worked that day (so I'm out about $70)

can they legally do this? (in SD)

No they can't. You're entitled to be paid for all the time you actually worked.

No they can not do that. They have to give you the hours that you worked before you walked out of your job. What you should do is to call the Main office and let them know and also call the Better Business Bureau on them and find out from them what you can do to get your check. Also call the Unemployment office and talk to someone there about it.

A job I had up North the Director did not give the Teachers breaks and what happened is that the teachers won but we also got more money because they gave our checks late and they have to by law.

Good Luck and I hope this will help.
