For instance the Natalie Holloway, or Lacy Peterson case. Or the 2 teenage girls in Oregon, Ashley Pond, and Miranda Gattis. It seems law enforcement officials are always using they're utmost resources to solve these crimes. Including f-15 fighter jets with track and search technology. The media pushes these cases to the front of every magazine, and major network broadcast for years. But I walk into any grocery store, post office, or library and there are bulletin boards packed with lost notices about children missing that don't seem to get the sense of urgency that these glamour cases get.

Somewhat, but there's also the effect of one death is a tragedy and many are a statistic. For example, many people die from preventable diseases all of the time and there's a rash of genocide in Darfur, but one little blond girl's exact story can just grip people's hearts so they can convince themselves that those are the biggest things they need to concern themselves with. Kinda like a supernormal stimulis in animal behavior theory- how the media overcovers some things.

Yes, it does attract more media attention if the victims were attractive. It also helps if they were young, rich, white and female. Forget about getting much media attention if you're poor, nonwhite, unattractive, older, and male.

They got big media attention because they were RICH, not just because they were pretty. Rich, pretty girls do seem to get more attention than rich, plain-looking girls, though....
