Not only do you separate the whites from the colors, but you also have to separate the different fabrics.
But since most people buy clothes made of cotton, that isn't much of a problem anymore.
How would you like to do it all by hand and hang the clothes out on a line to dry? Forget about doing laundry on rainy days.
It really comes down to laziness.

It isn't that they think it is hard, it is the process of gathering all the laundry, putting it in the washer, taking it out of the washer, putting in in the dryer, taking it out of the dryer, then putting it away. Add in stairs in the equation and it might just take less time to go and buy new clothes. So yeah, they are just being lazy. A little tip for all you single guys out there, wash all your clothes in cold water and the colors wont run.

It isn't hard... just time consuming... if it's just YOUR wash, it's one or two loads... but if it is FAMILY wash, it can be 3 to 5 or more loads... it just varies. It's time consuming, because you want to pull the stuff from the dryer as soon as possible, so that shirts and pants don't wrinkle. It requires the energy of gathering the stuff, lifting it, folding it, etc.. and usually, when laundry is being done, dishes are also getting washed, floors being vacuumed and/or swept and mopped, beds being changed and made... it's all part of the task of housecleaning... and is all together very tiring.

I think people think it is hard just because it seems like your whole house is dirty when you have dirty laundry and it feels like you don't know where to start. I have 2 baby boys, one is 22 months old and one is 5 weeks old and you would not believe how much laundry i do. I at least have one load of laundry a day and that is very time consuming and can easily get out of control if not kept in check

Doing laundry is difficult for some guys. They were never taught when they were kids growing up or even as young adults. Mommy always did it for them.

Also some people are mechanically challenged or technophobic and don't like the endless array of controls on some washers.

I know it's stupid, but I'm just telling you how some people are.

Must be lazy. It's not hard. I don't care for hanging and folding clothes, but it has to be done.
