I am a sophomore in high school right now and one of the schools that I have my sights set on is Brown University. I have wanted to go to Brown for a few years now. My credientals are:

#5 out of 492 students
4.67 GPA out of 5.0
I am taking
Honors Advanced Algebra
AP US History
Honors English
Honors Chemistry
Spanish II
Those are the hardest courses you can take at my grade.
I am earning a B+ in AP all the rest of my courses I have A+s in. I have only take PSATS so far though so I can say what my SAT score is yet.

Extra Curriculars:
High School Swim Team
High School Soccer Team
USBC Bowling
High School Newspaper

Anyone have any advice on ways to improve my stats to have a better chance of getting into Brown?

Brown really goes for the UNIQUE INDEPENDENT THINKER. Try to make yourself stand out in that way somehow. SAT's aren't as big at Brown as say Harvard, but they still matter.

From the looks of your credentials so far, you are doing nicely. Do as well on your essay letter on why you would like to attend Brown University and the admissions board should give you a good review. The tough part is less than 2% of the applicants are accepted in the Freshman Class. This is true of all the Ivy League schools. Find some Brown Alumni from your area who might have a connection which could be helpful.

You're young you still have time. If you want to go to Brown you have to be willing to work hard. You need to do whatever it takes to pull out strait A's this year. Crush your PSAT. Also I suggest that you take the SAT this spring, you can take the SAT as many times as you want so it will be good to know where you stand and what you need to work on. Know that at Brown most applicants have about 2100 or more on the SAT so you should make 2200 your goal.

Take the SAT this spring, then find out your score prepare on your own or with a test prep and then take it again until you get satisfactory scores.

Make sure that you make good connections with your teachers so that you can get good recommendations. Also get to know your counselor so that he/she can right a personal recommendation for you.

Staying focused is all that you can do. Make sure that when it is time to apply you do it as early as possible.

Take what I say seriously. This is coming from a very smart person who slacked off in high school because his slacking off grades were still pretty decent. I'm a senior and aspiring to attend Dartmouth. I have pretty much blown my chances by slacking off and partying too hard the night before I took my only SAT. I could still get in but it will be tough. You still have time to do right by yourself. Work hard and get into brown.
