I would not. I would tell my child one or the other. then they could only have one other gift that would be up to maybe $15 dollars. If they weren't happy with one or the other, i wouldn't get them either item. I would get them nothing. I don't think a child would need both. If my child really wanted both, they would be willing to wait and get the items one at a time. the other gift would be something simple they wanted.

Then i would tell them the wii first and the Guitar ero could wait a couple months. This way, i would see if they wanted it because they wamted it or because it was a hot item at christmas.
you don't need the wii to play the game. If you were silly enough to buy a ps2 or a ps3, you could play it without the wii

I am a mother of two and future step mom of two as well. The kids are 18, 16, 11, and 1. The oldest has a XBox 360 which he has taken away to college with him. So, the 16 yr old asked for, you guessed it the Wii and Guitar Hero 3. Since the Wii is next to impossible to find we will probably get her a few small gifts & wait till just after Christmas and get the Wii. As for the Guitar Hero 3 she can wait for her birthday. Chances are she will want something else by then. Wii has many things you can do without games like connect to the internet, shop, edit photos, send and recieve messages, news, and weather. It also plays your old gamecube discs. You can pick them up on ebay for a few bucks to help pass the time while they are waiting for the Guitar Hero. Sometimes we go in together on a present like we will buy the system and their mom will buy games for it. This year her brother even offered to purchase a game for her if we get the system!

If I had the money, I'd probably buy him both. But it depends on the person. If he already had lots of stuff and would take it for granted, I probably would just get him one or the other.
Another way to go about it is to ask a relative to get him the guitar hero 3 and you just get the nintendo wii, or vice versa.
Or you could see which one he wants more and get that for him. You can do a lot with the Nintendo Wii that you can't do with Guitar Hero (or can you play the Guitar Hero on the Wii system? Not sure.)
I think you're generous for thinking of getting either one, as they are pretty expensive to get. He should have fun with any one you get.

I WOULD GET THEM BOTH THE WII AND GUITAR HERO 3. Those things go together. You can't just get the Wii, then you don't have a game to play on it. If you just get Guitar Hero 3, then you have no console to play it on. It would be an extremely sad Christmas. It's Christmas, it's a time of giving. Give your child what they want. It's not that much of a sacrifice. Your child will be so happy, it'll make you happy to see them happy.

Just buy the Nintendo Wii. I know alot of kids that love it and I've heard that they make guitar hero for it now.
Videos games are actually really good for a child's development. they need to be playing age appropriate games and need to have time limits, but there is nothing wrong with having a little fun.

I am a parent and I would get guitar hero III but not the Wii. Cost is a factor, learning some great music is another and limiting time spent playing games indoors is a third!

There is valuable information you are leaving out, like if the said child you are buying for has OTHER games for the wii, if so then your logic is fine. But if your child has NO games for the wii, that wouldn't make sense, just buying a video-game with no system, or a system with no video-game makes no sense.
A system with no game is of no use to anyone, the same way a game with no system is equally useless.

If I had the money I would - why not?
I wouldn't call it 'spoiling' so much because it depends on how much you get them in the first place.
If you bought them things all the time and then got that then I would say they were spoiled. If it's just a christmas gift and they are not getting gifts ALL the time then I would buy it.

Do you remember what it was like to be a kid? All I heard in messages like that were rejection and meanness rather than the true point of moderation and responsibility and the privilege of choice. I would maybe lighten up a little around the holidays or you may give them the wrong type of memories. You really have the rest of the year to teach those lessons IMHHO.

how old are your children? If they are pretty young, I would def. hold off on GH. I'm not sure of your religious interests, but there are many satanic references (songs, symbols, etc.). I own the game and enjoy it ( i am 28 though). Just maybe not a good idea for younger kids. Get the wii (or 360...better games).

I wouldn't get either. Although I'm not a parent, I have seen the effects of gaming systems on children. My sister has a Wii, an XBOX, and a Playstation, and already there are obvious effects of them on her two year old. Children don't NEED video games. If you really feel like your child would benefit from a gaming system, or it'd be a nice recreational toy or whatever, get him something simple.
