you dont use washing powder?? i watched an episode of i want my mummy and the dad didnt know that there was such thing as washing powder and the towels and clothes came out ripped and holed. does that happen coz its not slimey and its just water like does it get ripped without the slideyness of the washing powder?

NO, there's something wrong with your washer. Try a gentler cycle or get a front loading machine.

This will also happen if the towels are very old.

Washing clothes in a washing machine along with the normal wearing of clothes will eventually cause holes to appear in clothes,but for the clothes to get ripped up,there has to be something in the machine that is causing it.
Laundry detergent is used to help remove dirt and grime from the fabric.

No. The purpose of detergent powders or liquids is to remove dirt; they have no effect on the longevity of clothes. However, I found out the hard way that there is a washing technique which is extremely hard on clothes: washing them in hot water if the water is hard. This will leave tiny mineral crystals in the fabric, and any bending will cause the fabric to disintegrate. Bottom line: if you have hard water, limit your washing to cold water.

No, if you use detergent or not the wash machine should not make holes in your materials. Just like if you shower and you stink going in there and do not use soap, your probably not going to smell too good coming out either. Sounds like the show you watched might be deceiving.

Something is catching them in the washer and ripping them.
