Duh, the end of the box has fake feet and the person is only in the top end.

It is easy if you don't mind ending up with a dead human when finished.
Seriously, the classic trick was done with two women in the box. One was hidden under a false bottom.
While setting up the trick, a switch was made so the feet of one woman were sticking out of the bottom of the box, while the head of the other was out the top. Yes, the two women had to be accomplished contortionists to perform the act.
