My mom complains to me all the time because she's strapped for cash. I've tried explaining to her that if she would just quit leaving the TV and kitchen lights on 24/7, that would save her plenty of money. I told her because she's leaving those on all the time that she's basically flushing money down the toilet. She doesn't agree with me about it and says all I'm trying to do is start an arguement with her even though all I'm trying to do is help her save some money

She tries telling me the reason she leaves the lights on is to keep the roaches away. My counter arguement to that was if she'd start turning off the lights, she could save money and would be able to afford a better (and roach free) apartment. She still don't agree. So I told her she's stuck in her ways because she refuses to listen to me.

Exterminators come around every couple of months. The reason the building has roaches is because of her neighbors. My mom is actually a clean person. All though I did have to buy her a new vacuum since her old one is no longer good enough now that she has cats.

That's a good idea maybe you should have her try those new light bulbs that help save energy and money. I don't know what they are called but they do work pretty well. My husband is the same way. I am constantly walking behind him and shutting things off.

It is definitley wasting money-the less electricity used, the more money will be saved. It also depends on the type of light bulbs the kitchen lights have-use fluorsecent bulbs!!! they last longer and are way more efficient. Tell her to not keep the TV on 24.7 b/c it will have a greater chance of breaking down. i hope this answered your question...

Yes. it's a waste of money. And i think an exterminator needs to come in your apartment. Those things breed. Yuck! And there not good to have around period.

It is a slight waste, lights don't burn the kilowatts up like people think, the big users are things like blow dryers, curling and clothes irons and of course the heat and air and washer and dryer.

what a switch! when i was a kid my mom would always yell at us that we were making the meter spin! then i said that to my kids too when they were young. i think its responsible of you to try to save that way :)
