I am a firm believer in helping your own before helping others.
I do not care about the starving children in Africa. Let's feed the starving children in my own country first!
It's great that celebs want to help others but they should help themselves first. Look at the celebs around my age (I'm 20). They're so fooked in the head.

I agree. I think when many people hit it big especially in Hollywood they seem to forget about the place they come from. I'm not saying you have to cut a big check to give back , there are others ways such as donating your time. I don't think it's just celebrities either, I think that everyone should at least set aside some time to volunteer and give back to their communities. When we help others we help ourselves. We help the world become a better place and who knows by you helping a complete stranger or someone else within your community you might inspire others to want to do the same thing.

If they are providing enjoyment to people through acting, singing, sports, or whatever got them where they are, not to mention being public figures who can't go to the grocery store without a camera over their shoulder in order to provide diversion for the public, have they not already "given?"
Why should celebrities be pressured to do this more than people who are successful in other fields? How many individuals or communities provide practical support for aspiring performers, artists, and writers in the US, who often perform, appear, write, etc. for free in their communities while working to support themselves?
And how many offer practical support for creative types who "almost made it" or are "has beens?"

i don't see why they have to give back.If i became a movie star or athlete the only people i would want to give back to is my family and whoever else had a hand in helping me.If someone from my town made it big i wouldn't feel like they should give something back espeially since i had nothing to do with them making it big.My community has not done anything to help me, my family and friends have thats why i wouldn't forget about them

If those ppl don't give back themselves then they have no right to point fingers at anyone else regardless of status. There is more to 'giving' then just writing a check.
--- Personally, I don't believe just because someone became financially successful that they owe me. If they were to help out of the kindness of their hearts, then it will be respected & appreciated but definetly not owed.

must they? really, it's nice to give back when opportunity strikes, but is it necessary for acceptance? if so, what are their motives, really? are they giving back because they are moved to or because they'll be called a heel if they don't? and if it's because they are moved to, why must it be done publicly? i think that is shameful. do not let your right hand know what your left is doing. they ought to give privately and not just to satisfy the boo hooers.

I don't see any law where a celebrity has to give back to their community if they don't want to. It's their money and they should be able to do whatever they want.

All that is necessary to "give back" to where you came from is to by mom and dad a new house. If I strike it rich someday dont expect me to give all my money away to charity.
