You CAN'T use a coat hanger, or anything like that! These people obviously have much less technologically advanced cars. Think about it...side airbags, for one. You'll have to get another key cut from the dealership...and where are the other three keys (valet, etc.) they issued you?

Most BMW produced in the last 10+ years have a safety mechanism to prevent the driver from locking the door when the door is open. So the door can only be locked either with a key, via the remote, or from someone inside the car with the door closed.
So my question is, how the heck did you lock your keys in the car?? Did a passenger lock the driver's door from the inside then proceeded to lock the passenger door before leaving? Or maybe someone else locked the car and threw away the key?
In any case, if the door was locked with a key or remote, it is also double locked (some call it "dead locked"). So even if you break the window or call AAA, the door won't open from the inside no matter if you pressed the unlock button or pulled on the handle . The only way is to open the door with a spare key or remote.
The only way people like the AAA can help is if the double lock was not engaged and that a passenger had locked the car using the method described above.
Where are you spares? If you don't have spares, time to buy one from the dealer... make sure you bring proof of ownership and your VIN number. They'll get you a new key. It's way more practical than to spend money to hire an expert automotive locksmith.

With bmws you should always have a spare key, or give a spare key to someone you trust. I locked my keys in my car once and the only way you can actually get into the car is to either have a spare key or have a locksmith pick the lock. And it is a lot better to pay a locksmith $50 to open your door then to pay a few hundred to have your sunroof reinstalled.....ask me how I know :-)
As said before it is almost impossible to get into the car if it is double locked.
As far as cops, Im not sure where everyone else lives but it would be nice if a cop did that.

You can try prying the top of the door with wedges and sticking a rigid metal rod down in through the gap to press unlock. This could damage the black rubber seal, however. Companies like Pop-a-lock are very professional, but will cost you around $50. I always keep a spare key for instances such as this.

If it were that easy, we'd all be stealing BMW's! Call Triple A or locate your spare and have someone bring it to you.
If you're close to Northridge, I'll give you a ride lol

You can try to pick your car open using a coat hanger or some aspect like that, or you can call the fire department and ask for help. Otherwise you can call a locksmith to come down and open the door for you, either way will work.

Call your auto insurance company and see if you have roadside assist. If not then your best bet is to call pop a lock or someone similar instead of risking damaging your car. If one of the windows is cracked you can try a wire hanger and pull open the lock.
