You are defining a Concept, by referrance to a singal point.
Without defining the terms of referrance, therefor the question is unsubstantiated and your referrance to Trees, needs qualification.
Like;
Q) If Trees, do not think. Why do they have a root system.
A) They need minerals from the earth to survive, If they didn't think about a root system, they couldn't eat completely.
Q) If trees, do not think. Why does the foliage of trees, routinely follow a weather format.
A) Tree's need to follow a growth and production system, to stay alive and to develop their species.
Because things, do not follow your line of thinking or do not follow a system. That you can identify as thought.
Does not mean, that tree's does not think. It only means, that their trane of thought follows different lineage to your own.

A tree doesn't doubt its own existence, so it doesn't need aphoristic first principles to reassure itself. If you think, then you are, at very least, thought (mind). If the idea of solipsism bores you, then you may want to go on to admit the existence of something outside of your mind (body). But your expression "what I have thought" already goes much further by introducing temporality--extension in time--and extension requires matter, space, and a couple other categories besides.

You ARE.
Thinking is only part of all the things you DO.
If the premis of your question were limited to that simple statement, what would be the point of BEING.
The simple statement "I think, therefore I am." is most certainly true, but the whole of your existance is NOT limited to just thought.

when Descrates said "Cogito Ergo Sum" or I think, therefore I am he was was attempting to prove the existnace of God. but in order to do so he had to prove the existance of the human consciousness. He brings up the idea that it could be possible that our world my not actually exist, but it may simply exist in our mind (Much like the matrix) this being everyone we know my not actually exist but since we are capable of a thought process we know for sure that we exist. we know that we exist because we can experince the world around use. so on this bases we know that if we have a conciousness and we can experience the world around us that we do indeed exist. this is where he says I think, there for I exist.

You're not understanding what descartes meant. What Descartes meant by "i think therefore i am" is individual human awareness. He doubted everything existed even his own existence(everything could be a dream), but by doubting he is presenting a given, that there is a thinking subject. So if someone is doing the thinking than that someone exists. so simply by thinking(doubting) he is proving that he exists.

Dear Axe,

Thinking is not the proof of your existence. thinking is only a result of your existence. you exist with several attributes. therefore you can think.

only thinking is not the criterion to decide your existence.

if you agais ask what is your existence then it would be the toughest question for any body to answer. because the existence is subjective. only you would be having an indirect information of your existence. we merely deduce it from your actions. for us all you are a presumption. as we all are prusumptions for you.

You are what you do, not what you think. Unless your thoughts are expressed somehow, they don't define you..

Some people say you are what you eat.

Maybe you are what you think you eat.
