I'm 17 years old, and I've been looking into getting laser hair removal for these weird dark, coarse hairs that I've just noticed on my back and shoulders. I've been embarrassed to actually get them treated in a salon, because they don't seem to be common among women. One salon website mentioned that hair on a woman's back/chest/belly could be the result of a hormone imbalance. I googled it, and I think it may fit: I have problems with acne, and with my weight, despite being a Weight Watcher since I was about 13. However, my period is normal. Could I have a hormone imbalance, or am I just unlucky?

Based on your symptoms, yes it's very possible that you have a hormone imbalance. I started having symptoms of a couple of different medical problems at around the age of 16. One of the medical problems I started to have symptoms of was a hormone imbalance that I later found out was called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

I have a problem with dark, coarse hairs on my face as well as issues with my weight and it's been a struggle to try and lose the weight. At the time I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) I was still having regular periods although I was starting to notice other things in between those periods like stretch marks.
