For example, i buy a five dollar card (which says no connection fees) to call overseas, on posters and online ads they state that i will get 42 minutes (it doesn't say aprrox.) and when i buy the card, all i get is half an hour, and thats if I use one time. If i were to talk 5 mins each call with the same card, the number of minutes actually given is much lower, 15 minutes.

no you can not
you can file and if enough others also file the cases can be joined into a "class action" which then would be hundreds or thousands of customers filing against the company.
without knowing what card and reading all the fine print and disclaimers it would be impossible to say with what information you have given if litigation would ever be warranted or succeed.

Best you'd probably get is a few free minutes from the company if you raised a big enough stink about it....That's if they are feeling gracious.
Most now days will just say if you do'nt like the service...then find another. Unless you bring it up with someone' s manager. There's still no guarrantee, but seems things have to actually reach high enough in the chain of command before they even consider doing anything.
The Federal universal charge for instance is a program that no longer exists, yet you will find about $1 +/- charged to your montyly phone bill non-the-less.
Seems large corps always get by with stuff like this until enough people get mad or have some lawyer small print to try and cover themselves.

I dont think you would get anywhere with sueing but this site may help for the future. It shows the real price of phone cards

http://www.timedial.net/phone-cards-price-compare/

Time Dial searches the top sites for phone cards. It is the only phone card site that calculates and compares the full cost of calling cards including all rates fees and surcharges.

Answer 6 questions and it tells you how much a phone card will cost you for a given period with your stated usage. This way you get the minutes stated.

I wish there was a way to sue them.

Wal-mart had some phone cards that said that is can be reloaded at the register. I tried to reload the card at the register of two different Wal-marts and it didn't work. My mom also had the same type of phone card and it was not able to be reloaded either. It seems that she called the number on the card to get it reloaded and they charged a fee.

When she called them a second time to see why the card is not able to be reloaded at the register. The customer service rep said that it is not able to be reloaded, she has to call. She asked why because it clearly states on the card that it can be reloaded at the register. He said, he didn't know. She spoke to the manager and the manager told her it was a misprint. She was upset because they are still selling these cards.

I know what you mean! I hate how those cards rip people off.
The last time I used one, i got no ring-tone when I dialled, yet it still took money off my card. I called customer service, and they said it's not their fault that I dialed the number, and they would charge even if I didnt get a connection. Argh!!

No, they will win hands down, they have millions of dollars to spend on lloyars who will win over anything you hire. Thats why we dont sue the big guys... ever... noone does, cos we cant, as much as everyone wants to.

Let trading standards know, an if they get enough complaints they will try something

I heard about this scam on the news. Let people know the name of the company so they won't buy the cards.
