I'm from there and spent my first 18 years there, up until a year and a half ago when I moved for college.
And I'd say it's all right, but it depends what you're looking for. If you want something family friendly, it's fairly nice. For the size, I'd say the crime isn't too bad. It can be boring at times, but they're sort of working on that. Downtown has improved a lot over even the past five years with a lot more lofts and so on, a new library (that I don't personally like the design of, but at least it's modern), a new arena, a lot of shops including one section of downtown called the East Village (yes, they ripped off New York). Plus there's a handful of festivals. The Art Festival that happens every year in June is one of the best in the nation in rankings. There's a world food fest that I haven't personally been to, but I've heard it's interesting. And it's already been mentioned, but one thing you will have to put up with is the weather - can get extremely cold in winter, and then in the summer it's just really humid.
