There are a few of us that refuse to give up. Just because older does not mean we have quit. I am more active now than when working full time. It has to do with mental capability and health.

Strange you'd say that, as when I read your question, I im-
mediately thought of two of my late aunts. They were in their
early 80's and still mowing their own lawns and doing other
chores. Then they had strokes within a year of each other.
I have thought that as the generations have passed, that
weaker generations have replaced them. Just remembering
what my grandparents' were able to do, and then their children in old age.
I remember one year I was at the threshold of my vitality.
I had two teenagers, and I was able to clean my house, and
mow the front and back yards by myself, without any help.
After that, I went back to just one or the other in one day. I no
longer had the energy to keep up that kind of pace. I remem-
ber also that same summer, I was mowing a neighbors two
yards while they were on vacation, plus ours on the same
day also. I think I was on some mega vitamin and mineral
pills that year, and that's how I was superwoman for awhile.
I remember those pills well, I sure could use some of them
now.
I was told that before she died, I had a great aunt who was
almost blind and at 92, she was still mowing her lawn. Now
I just don't know how that could be possible. She died about
six months later, and my aunt told me that before she too
passed away several years later.
I notice the obits now, and I see that people are living
into their early 90's more and more. And there is a group
of 80 plus that are also passing away. I find it's rare to see
a younger person than that die, unless it's due to an
accident of some sort, or illness. But people are living
longer lives I think. So they may carry on their stamina and
energy into older ages than before. People are more aware
of eating better with proper nutrition. So I think that explains
alot of it, don't you?

Yes, my good friend. She is 76, 13 years older than I am. She is a real live wire. She keeps an immaculate house, runs lots of arrands, plays cards three to four times a week, walks to the casino several times a week, and cooks for herself and her husband. She looks younger than I do too. She has the energy of a 40 year old. She is busy all the time. She and her husband live in a motor home and winter here and summer in the northeast. That have been doing this for 20 years.

Last year I met an 84 year old woman at the YMCA. We were both working on the nautilus machines. We used to chat often and I found out that throughout the Autumn season she and her husband would cut and split enough wood for the winter months to fill their wood stove. She'd also just returned from a motorcycle trip with her son-in-law where she was one very popular lady with others of various ages. When she works out at the YMCA , her legs are the envy of many!.

I know a lot of people who are older than me and are more active. I know some people who are in their 80s and swim every day and are generally more active than I am. I think genetics has a hand in it. Some people have a better genetic code and have less health problems such as arthritis and cardiovascular disease. My wife works at a senior home and there are some people there that are really extraordinary in mind and body.

My boyfriend and I took his parents out for supper on New Years Eve last year. They are both 83.We ate at a nice place, and were taking them back to their house about 10:30, and his Dad wanted us to find a place where they could "cut the rug" (dance). We didn't know any place since we lived out of town, but we were both ready to head back to our hotel, and they were acting like energizer bunnies.I have a 75 year old uncle who is the same way. He mows his grass and that of his 91 year old brother. Plus, I always see him out walking the neighborhood.

I sure have, my landlord is 70 yrs. old, never stops working from morning till evening. He paints, cuts grass, shovels snow, works a huge garden, hunts, just never seems to be still. He seems to be in relatively good health, I guess a lot of it has to do with upbringing and inherited genes. Apparently of which I am lacking in both areas.

It must be something in the air.
Today I was out working and came upon a 74 year old man and his 73 year old wife.
They were out here on business from California. The car they were driving had quit them and they sat there for 2 hours before I stopped to help them. They were in the part of the mountains where on a good day cell phone reception is spotty to say the least, on a day like today with 2 - 3 feet of snow and it is still snowing there simply is none. They couldn’t phone for help, and you know how helpful people are.
I told them to sit in my truck while I dropped my boom and hook their car. He helped his wife to my truck so she would not slip and fall and then he came back, crawled up under his car, hooked the axel, while I was hooking my side of the car, he ran the lights.
They have lived in California all of their lives. He recently bought a vending company that allows them to stay on the road and travel 40 weeks a year.
It took us about 3 hours to get back into Denver. All the way back they told me tales of their trips to France, Alaska, Japan, England and Rome. She had photos of them from each place in her wallet. Places they had visited this year.
After telling me about their adventures, he said "Ya, I needed to buy another business to settle us down, we spent all year traveling the world, meeting new friends, but when you get to be our ages, you realize that it may be time to settle down."
I was speechless. It is all I can do to roll out of bed and get ready for another day.
We took the car to a Ford Dealer and I took them out to eat, before I took them to a motel. They have been married 55 years, never spent 1 night alone. They had 1 son that was killed in a war, so now they have no one but each other.
She reached over and put her hand on mine and told me that the secrete to a long and healthy life is simple. You love, you forgive, you laugh, you cry and you remember that all of the money in the world is no good, if you do not have someone you love to share it with.
The only thing I can say is that if for any reason should I be allowed to live that long, I hope I can get around like those 2 did and I hope I learn to love someone 1/4 of the way they love each other.

My parents were able to work circles around me without any problem. But now it is the other way around. I have seen them do this with other folks as well. It is really sad now that they are in the shape that they are in.
