Has anybody visited Amsterdam in February for a short visit ?

I'm going to be doing this and was wondering what your overall experience was like.

I'll definitely heed the advice of some of you and wear plenty of layers to keep myself warm. But i do plan on sightseeing exclusively through the GVB tram and night bus network and will be doing a lot of walking.

I often go to Amsterdam for a day, any time of year.
In general in winter I will be inside buildings more than in summer, but I will still walk a lot.

Here is a website that can help you plan your visit:

Try to make a short list of thing you want to do:
Museums, special kind of shops, a bit walking along the canals in the ring (Herengracht, Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht,) and along the canals in the oldest part of town, (Oudezijds Voorburgwal, Gelderse kade.)
This map can help you find streets when you are still at home:

In many parts of town almost every street corner seems to have a 'cafe', a place to get a drink, mostly they do serve coffee too, but the most popular drinks will be beer and hard spirits.
If you did get cold, think about a hot chocolate with a dash of something strong.......

Make sure that your clothes are water resistant. It could be snowing or it could be raining. Bring a hat, as it's considered kind of nerdy to carry an umbrella there.

Make sure your shoes are comfortable.

It's very cold.

The nice thing is there won't be too many tourists around.
