please no smart *** comments. This is a 20 page paper for an upper level sociology course. You cant get exact 1 inch margins "by looking at them"

I should mention, I'm basing this on Microsoft word 2003. Since my college doesn't accept anything except word 2003, I haven't bothered to upgrade. Hope this helps :)

1. goto File> Page setup

2. then put in 1" boxes labeled "left", "right", "top" and "bottom" (that should set your margins to 1" - even when printing).

- Make sure the Gutter is 0 (or whatever you want it. By default, just leave it at 0).

- Also make sure the Preview section is set to Apply to: "Whole Document"

If you then select Okay it will set your margins to 1" even when printing. Unless you change them again your margins will be 1 inch.

If you can't see that via the ruler however, click View -> Print Layout and see if that helps. This should let you see the 1" margins just fine.

If the ruler is still messed up, you might be zoomed in. Make sure you are viewing it at 100% (go to View -> Toolbars -> make sure "Standard" is checked). There's a percentage option at the top in the 'Standard toolbar'. It's a drop down menu, click it and go to the 100% and select it to view at 100%.

Understand the last part about seeing the ruler is just for you to be able to see on the ruler that your margins are at 1". That's all. The Page Setup will set your margins, not the ruler.

Hope that helps :) Cheers!

Don't use the ruler to set them. Click on File in the top left of your window. Then choose "page setup." The default is 1.25 inches on both right and left margins. Change them each to 1.0 inches and click OK. They will automatically be reset to one inch on right and left.

If you do this before you begin typing it will be the margins throughout your file. If you do it in the middle of your file you need to deside if you want to affect the entire file or only a paraticular section of the file. Highlight the section if that's all you need with 1" margins, and click on "selected section only." Pay attention to these options to be sure you are getting what you want.

I am so glad to read the truth written for all to see. It's nothing but propaganda. President Bush threw that phrase out there and illegal supporters have used it to death. It's not true, never was, never will be. Americans made this country what it is, and when our government gets rid of all the illegals we will make it great once again. If illegals are so invaluable, and so hard working why are their countries such a mess that they are running from as fast as they can. And if they are so invaluable why is it illegal for them to work, live and cross our borders.
