Keep in mind that I live in the US.
When you make a right-turn, do you need to check for cars coming from the right? Naturally the only traffic that would merge would be the cars coming from the left, but is it still necessary to glance to the right before hand?

P.S. To all of you who live outside the US and drive on the left side of the road, just reverse the directions given and pursue the question as thus.

You should check to make sure that pedestrians aren't coming or that maybe traffic isn't backed up to where you're turning. Also, if you're at a 4-way intersection, you may want to make sure someone isn't doing a u-turn to where you're about to turn.

Yes it is always a good idea to look both ways when entering traffic. Cars aren't the only thing that could be coming in the wrong lane. kids on bicycles, pedestrians, debris in the road, Maybe the car in front of you that has turned right as well has stopped in the middle of the road... you never know. A good rule of thumb my Grand father taught me was," Treat every car that you meet or pass on the road as if it were being driven by a total moron, idiot, retard...and you MIGHT not have a wreck." That advise has served me quite well as I have NEVER been in an accident that was deemed my fault.

I do not think you need to worry about car coming from the right unless of course someone has driven into the wrong lane which in any case is very rare, but glancing on the right will help you to see if there is any pedestrian traffic.

Why wouldn't you? Check that the left is clear, start on the gas as you glance right, jam on the brake if you're wrong.

The laws of man say there should be nothing coming from that direction, but the laws of physics are mute on the subject.

If you are making a right hand turn you are usually next to the curb. Checking for traffic from that direction would mean they would be on the side walk. I don`t check for cars. But i do however check for pedestrians.
