Ok the Media is spinning it that we are winning,
They say the surge is working
They say we are coming home.
Truth.
There was a cease fire declared by Al Sadar Pre-Surge. That is slated to end here soon. Baghdad is less violent but it is more violent in other parts of the country.
The troops are on track to come home after rotation. Legally they can not be there more then 16 months. A couple years ago it was 12 months but we had to up it because we don't have enough troops.
This is not a war. Iraq is an occupation, there is a huge difference.
Bush signed a friendship accord with them that is going to keep our troops there for many years kind of like we have with Korea The main difference is with Korea there is a zone and on one side is where the bad guy is. This is a civil conflict and the "bad guy" depending if your for Sunni or if your for Shia is all around
Troop deaths have dropped, yes but they are at 2006 levels which is when felt that we were getting our buts kicked.
Almost 4000 troops have been killed and another 30,000 wounded since W declared mission accomplished in the fall of 2003. Which was actually the end of the war and the occupation that we are in started.
Edit.
Nights answer is very right wing based. He has pretty much said all the talking points of Rush and Faux news. I doubt that he is an Indy.

Not sure what you want me to think. We have been winning the overall battle and there's proof of it. As an independant I know that there might be a little sunshine mentality in congress...but i'd rather choose the sunshine rather than the past year of the quiter mentality that the democrats have displayed.
Whether it be Harry Reid or Hilary..pick your demo politician, they've been flopping back and forth regarding thier support and the facts show that we are doing good. Ambar province use to be one of the worse regarding death and violence, now people can roam the streets relatively safe although not perfectly so. This flies in the face of the democratic party giving up and wanting our troops out because they've been preaching a picture of failure in Iraq to America.. They've called our troops murderers (Mertha), they've said we lost the war before it really even got started or after the surge (Reid), I can't really respect people with a quiter mentality. Those people in my opinion shouldn't hold positions of leadership. They destroy morale, they decieve when convenient and seem bent on trying to get thier way by lying to the American people. And these are leaders ?
The war isn't popular, but it is important, and i'm more than content to make decisions based on how well or bad things are going...but....problem is now days that everyone has an agenda, the media loves to hold back information and favor the democrats. So you can't believe what you hear or see in the news media..which is suppose to be unbiased. Taking the information from the actual source..the troops that have been over there, the overwhelming majority say its an important mission and we need to do this right. The Demo's should be ashamed of themselves, and those voting such should see thier leaders for who they really are, not vote for them blindly because they say nice things and agree on one or 2 issues.

If only we could figure out what the objective of this war is, maybe we could agree with her. Evidently Bush disagrees with her. He said we won the war years ago. Remember this? "Mission accomplished." Unfortunately, I think the objective in Iraq never had anything to do with Iraq but everything to do with politics right here in the U.S. of A., and in that theatre we will all lose so long as lawyers and politicians are allowed to make decisions for us.
Maybe it's time for a doctor?

Bush has given up on the war on terror so I guess your talking about the mayhem he created when he invaded Iraq.im not really sure what the definition of winning is,if after we leave Iraq everything thing stays peachy then i guess we can say he righted a wrong that he created, but for how long are we responsible for the well being of that country?what happens if they become embroiled in a civil war a year after we leave,do we let them have their civil war or do we stop it?dont they have a right as a nation to have a civil war ,we had ours..tough question really,

I think your aunt needs a reality check on that. If we had WON the war, then why did Bush sign an agreement with Malaki that would guarantee we'd be staying till at least 2059?
If we had WON the war, why are we still there? Why hasn't Bush pulled out our troops yet?
A: Because he doesn't want to retreat from Iraq while he's still President.
Even if it means occupying a nation that never posed a threat to us in the first place.

She is high. Iraq is more dangerous to the US than before the war. And we have spent an OBSCENE amount of money and weapons there, that our enemies are actually stealing to fund the fight against us. The dead cannot be brought back and the money is gone forever. The idea that we are on the way to victory is a sick joke.

The "war" was over when Saddam was captured and there were no weapons of mass destruction found. Now it is just an illegal occupation.
