With all this talk of "anti-aging," can we actually stop it or is it beyond the basic laws of physics?

The short answer is: No Nothing exists forever, not even the universe. Now is there a potential way around that fact, yes.
It's the same with living forever. There is a great deal that scientists don't know about time, the universe, and human life. So anything is possible, in my opinion.

Can humans be made to live for a very, very long time? Very likely. There are a number of ways to approach the problem.

A.) We can patch-work the existing human being and try to keep them alive for much longer than normal.

B.) We can clone human beings and possibly transfer one's consciousness from the genomic donor to the clone. There are researchers working on this aspect.

See: The Mind Uploading Research Group (MURG)

And, according to quantum mechanics, it may not be necessary to "transfer" consciousness. A human clone is not the same as human twins, there is a significant difference in their embryogenesis. And, this difference may result in, as the clone matures, it and the genomic donor may become one and the same person. Human twin studies suggest that this might be the case.

C. It may be possible to reverse the aging process at the cellular level by something called "telomerase therapy." Telomerase is an enzyme found in both cancer cells and in early human embryos. In the human embryo, as it matures, the gene for telomerase gets turned off --- this is the start of the aging process. Telomerase therapy concerns itself with turning the telomerase gene back on just long enought to lengthen the telomeres at the ends of each of our 46 chromsomes to their starting proper lengths, then turn it back off again. If workable, it could result in bringing the aging process to a complete stop, or, even reversing its effects.

D. In the future, as computer systems become even more powerful, we may be able to continue life in cyberspace (hyperspace) as an intelligent (self evolving) computer program.

E. With the advancement of quantum computers, quantum mechanics offers other possibilities such as time travel and teleportation.

You're asking two questions totally different from each other. When people talk about "anti-aging" they are talking about the prevention of the look or effects of aging. The other is, "Can humans live forever?" The answer to the first question is possibly, the reason we look aged is because our skin is dying and gravity is taking it's toll on us and therefore we wrinkle. If we could find something that will keep our skin from dying and some sort of "glue" that will keep gravity from pulling our skin then we could prevent the look of aging. As for the other question, the answer is no. Humans will never be able to live forever because there will always be disease, and everyone's organs will die or fail sometime no matter what we do, which leads to clinical death, and eventually brain death.

Hi, that just goes against the laws of life in general. People can't and never will be able to live forever. organs can only take so much, bones begin to wither, your brain only functions so long. Yours nerves can't go forever. There is no way to manipulate these things so that you are able to keep them going and keep them somewhat sharp. That is unless you want machines in your body but then your no better then a robot so to say.

We are not meant to live forever, we die for a reason. Plus think about what would happen to the world if this happened? Our population would go crazy, out of control. No doubt the prices of things would go up too.

No. Almost all of the cells in your body die after about 2 years and get replaced. In laboratory experiments cell reproduction was limited to about 50 times indicating 100 years is the maximum life expectancy a human could expect. In the future it may be possible to slow down the aging process which could increase life expectancy.

They found out recently that "aging" is actually nature's way to let us live longer...

The "tail end" of the DNA strand gets shorter and shorter with each cell division...

If our cells didn't stop dividing (which is what aging is) then the integrity of the DNA strand would cause us to "die" after the last cell division that used up all of the "tail end"...

So...

It turns out...

"Aging" is a good thing...

It enables us to live 30 to 50 years longer than we would ordinarily...

(But still...I'd sure like to figure out how to stop the tail from being used up...life is definitely...too damn short)

I think it may well be beyond the basic laws of physics. In particular, quantum physics. The random chance that you may be called back to whatever you came from is just too great to not EVER occur. And when it does, your atoms and molecules go their separate ways.

It is very unlikely although it is quite possible that, in the future, we will learn enough about stem cells that it will be possible to grow a new liver or a new heart that will be an exact match to you.

i believe that soon we will have the technology to live forever, but that will not protect you from things like cancer or other diseases. Besides who would want to be walking around as a 500 year old. that would totally suck.
