No, she certainly is not qualified to choose a presidential contender. She is entitled to her opinion, and that is that.
I have lost all respect for this lady that I once admired very much.

You don't just confront the president that way. You don't even confront a presidential candidate that way. Oprah has every right to endorse Obama, but it's still just a political endorsement. If I vote for Rudy Guiliani, and he screws up as president, I don't confront him do I? No, I whine about wasting my vote. Oprah may be a rich, influential person, but she has no more affect on how Obama runs his campaign, or potentially this country, than I do.

Her staff screens the guests on the show and gave Frey a go-ahead. It was their mistake, not Oprah's.
And yes, first of all as an American she has the right to endorse anyone she wants. And yes, she is qualified because she is intelligent, articulate, and does her homework.

It shouldn't matter who endorses who. Just because they have money doesn't mean they are any better informed, or that their opinion is more valuable. If anything, attaching her name to Obama just makes everybody talk about him more. Besides, I don't think anybody is stupid enough to vote for someone just because a celebrity says so. I just hope Obama isn't promising Oprah the world for some campaign contributions...

Are you saying only perfect people who never make mistakes can vote or endorse candidates? Even the candidates have made mistakes. She is just as qualified as everyone else. Please tell me why this bothers everyone? I am not a big Oprah fan but I respect her right to endorse anyone she pleases. We all have the same right.

Oprah is Oprah. She is certainly in a position to influence both the energy and outcome of this presidential election. Her qualifications are in the eye of the beholder.

I'm with the others, she is after all entitled to her opinion and her beliefs (this is still a free country, we haven't lost the the right to free speech). But it is terrifying that because she says she likes this or that, or him or her, that millions of people run out and get that book, or clothes or what ever she talks about, like she is an all knowing oracle.

In backing Obama, Oprah is playing the race card in reverse.
Oprah is qualified to listen to her cash register.

Anyone is qualified to endorse a candidate. But it is up to each person to decide what value to place on that endorsement.

How about the fact that Oprah is moron who peddles platitudes and emotional pleas for insanity to the uneducated, pink wine drinking female population of the country? Does that disqualify her from political relevancy?

Oprah is very educated (and of course, wealthy). Personally, I respect Oprah and her opinion. I support Barack Obama. Point being, her influence is powerful and is definitely a factor, positve or not.
