I am wondering what everyone thinks about having a Taxpayer Identification Number to set up bank and credit accounts with as an actor. I know in most other businesses this offers a clear advantage but as an actor it does fall into the grey area. Any help would be most appreciated.

for privacy purposes and stage name a FEIN would be better for sub contracting work, but for tax reported work the SS# gets you credits for retirement.

I really don't think it makes a difference. You aren't a corporation or an LLC are you? Maybe start with your SS# then if you form a company you can get the TIN. Maybe you could double post this in the financial section?
