Beachbum', to the extent that these organizations claim tax exemptions it is matter for public scrutiny. If they gave up that status, then it would be for the IRS to monitor and that is done confidentially until or unless you are sent off to a federal facility. .

Don E.
Their tax exmpt claim is certainly public business. It is a matter of public law and properly the oversite of the Congress. Take some tiem to find out what you are talking about before you pop off.

The separation of church & state. The church wants the advantage of this separation when it comes to their financial records. They want the exclusion from revealing any of those records. The church also revels in the current list of candidates that constantly proclaim their religion in the political arena. I would guess that some political candidates, who practiced the ministry before switching to politics, was dead set against any revealing of his church's financial records to the government. However, now it suits them to proclaim their religion while in the political arena. A one sided view in my mind. If the government didn't belong in their religion's business, then their religion doesn't belong in the business of government. Many TV evangelist live very, very well on the contributions of the people that send them their $10 every week. Many of them are millionaires. To be viewed by the IRS would reveal the direction the money they collect takes.

Put aside the fact that it is a racket for a moment. The one that is refusing has handed over some. They want more. He said "Get a warrant". As is his right as an U.S. citizen. I agree it's a racket. I agree that instead of buying cars, houses etc they should feed the people. But I also agree with him standing by his rights as he covers his butt.

It saddens me to see people in high repute take that respect and use it for ill gotten gains. It saddens me to see someone take the Gosepl of Christ and try to twist it to allow them to live under 'the prosperity gospel'. Christ said, "You cannot serve God and money." Unfortunately, these ministers too often seem to be serving money rather than God.
