I have a guinea pig and rabbit. I was wondering if i could feed them both rabbit food or feed them both guinea pig food, or do they need th have thier own specific food?
As well, could i introduce my guniea pig to my rabbit, and would my rabbit hurt him?I just got him a week ago, so i really don't want either of them to get hurt. Thanks

Whren i said introduce my guinea pig, i meant play time together, not the same cage. I want to know this because my guinea pig lives all alone because my dad wont let me get him a friend :(

Not a good idea for two reasons. The protein and vitamin/mineral requirements are different. And guinea pigs need extra vitamin C in their diets (don't trust pellets to provide it). The main diet of rabbits should be a good grass hay that is NOT alfalfa.

Also, rabbits can frequently carry a bacterial infection that does not make them sick, but can be fatal to guinea pigs. For this reason they should be kept separately and you should wash your hands between handling them.

at our local supermarket u can buy a pellet called 'guineapig and rabbit food'
that stuff wudnt hav the antibiotic in it that the other person was talkin bout or they cudnt sell it.

some bunnies and guineas get along some dont.usually only a very friendly bunny will live with a guinea.my friends bunny who wasnt particually friendly beat up her guinea and bit her ears and now the giunea is all scared an doesnt like u 2 pick it up.
if ur bunny is friendly eg.lets u pick it up and cuddle it.it will probly live with a guinea.

at first just let them run around in the lounge or an inclosed area and see what they do.whether they tolerate eachother or not etc.

even if they get along the bunny will eat alot of the food ,which happened to me,and the guinea gets quite skinny cus the rabbit eats all the food.

make sure u give them 2 bowls in different places so they both get their own portion.also make sure the bunny isnt being mean .then they should live together fine, just keep an eye on them.

also u dont have to keep them apart cus of the food thing, just give them hay and vegies and fruit then theres nothing to worry bout cas there wont be any antibiotics in that.bunnies and guineas arnt meant to just eat pellets, infact none of our guineas ever like the pellets only the bunnies.

I recently moved from a large city to a small city and the only pet store around that sells live prey (for my ball python) also sells rodents and small reptiles. It is a small pet store and the staff is very knowledgeable. They have two large cages that house bunnies and guinea pigs. I think shared housing really depends on if the animals get along. One of the large tanks has several bunnies and a couple guinea pigs in it, but the other is reserved only for bunnies.

Rabbits need rabbit food.
Guinea Pigs need Guinea Pig food.

The foods contain perfect amounts of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients each animal needs.

They would probably get along, or just ignore each other.
Let them sniff each other through their cages for awhile, then let them both out into a large, escape proof room. Put "hides" out in case of aggression.

THEY MUST HAVE CAGES OF THEIR OWN.

You see them together in pet stores, but for best results, they should have their own space.

No, guinea pigs and rabbits have different dietary needs, they both need a pellet that is specifically made for their species.
Rabbit pellets have an antibiotic in the pellet that could seriously harm the guinea pig.
The best company that makes pellets specifically for rabbits, and specifically for guinea pigs is Oxbow.

No, they should not be introduced. It's very risky, the rabbit could seriously harm or even kill a guinea pig with a kick.

The best would be to ask your vet or the folks at your local pet store who know (not the dim bulbs at a chain pet store). I often see guinea pigs and rabbits in the same cage at pet stores but it may depend on your pets personalities. You can introduce them in a small, controlled area and be ready to break them up if things go wrong. No idea on the food tho.

I hear rabbits can eat guinea pig food, not sure if vice versa works.

As for putting them together, rabbits and guinea pigs get along fine=)

Good luck!

well there are many factors involved.. what is the sex of your rabbit? Boy? Girl? neutered? I would say monitored play time. All animals need and love affection so they may get along fine. Good Luck.
