I think you'll have a great time, and you won't be alone because you'll have your family too. You'll find Sydney is very welcoming to foreigners, especially if they make an attempt to fit in and discover the city and Australia. There are always lots of tourists visiting Sydney, and people moving from interstate or overseas to live in Sydney.

Weather wise, Sydney is (mostly!) great. Hot summers and mild winters. You'll have some of the best beaches of any city in the world nearby - the famous Bondi beach, Manly and Coogee. There's great shopping, the zoo and aquarium, cafes and restaurants, food and clothing/jewellery markets, and if you live on the North Shore of Sydney, you may be travelling on a ferry every time you go to the city, with the Opera House on one side of the harbour and the Sydney Harbour bridge on the other! And, if you turn 18 when you're here, you'll get to discover Sydney's great nightlife as well (no waiting until you're 21 before it's legal!)!

Tips - be yourself, be open to new ideas, adventures, and discoveries, and have an awesome time.

Hey, I'm 15 years old and I live on the Gold Coast in Australia. I have lived here my whole life and it's a beautiful place to live. The beach's are just amazing, and in the summer its so warm :) I personally think the people are nice, but it depends where you go about the chilled and laid back, but I guess we are all pretty cruisy ! The teenager's are just like any other teenagers around world haha ! Maybe Sydney or Melbourne if you like shopping. Good luck moving ! :) Also how weird is this my best friend lived in England last year and moved to Australia this year !

Sydney is a beautiful and exciting city and you will have a ball. I would suggest you read "Down Under" by Bill Bryson, an American writer who has made various trips to Australia and loves it. It should give you some great ideas.

G'day.

You'll love it here. Ok, the summers are quite hot, but our winters are great. I never wear a sweater (we call them jumpers here). There will be a few lingo problems, but most aussies understand American lingo so we know what you're talking about.

The best tip, is to be friendly, we give everyone a "fair go" as long as you don't cross us. We are are usually very accommodating, and take everything very easy and happy-go-lucky.

Don't be scared... us Aussie's love Americans and their cool accents! You'll meet some weird and wonderful people... just like everywhere else!
We don't have kangaroos jumping down the road with all the cars, though that would be interesting!

Welcome to Oz!
