I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good vacuum for me to get. I need something under $100, that I can use both on my hardwood floors, and to vacuum my carpeted staircase. Also lightweight. I've researched but can't find anything I want. Any suggestions?

Any up right vacuum will work on carpets and hardwood floors.
You may have to move a selector switch first,but there have been some advertised on TV that claim they can go from carpet to any other surface and back without making any changes.
There are some uprights that have a smaller detachable unit for stairs so you don't have to lug the whole thing up and down stairs.
You will have to shop around for the best price and see what is on the market.
